Сultivation of rainfed lands in the Bazar-Korgon district of the Jalal-Abad region. May results.
Spring 2020 was difficult for farmers because of the situation with COVID-19. Our agronomists provided remote consulting assistance to farmers of the Bazar-Korgon region involved in the GIZ IRDP project. At this stage, the total area of sown rainfed lands is more than 80 hectares. Of these, 75 hectares are planted with winter wheat of the «Steklovidnaya-24» variety, the remaining 7 hectares are barley of local varieties from the farmers own seeds. With the support of consultants, farmers treated the fields with a selective herbicide to protect rainfed fields from weeds and as a result, almost all fields are clean. Field monitoring showed that today wheat and barley are developing well, their height reaches 90-115 cm. Also, to demonstrate the cultivation and show the results of zero sowing, the first reproduction of «Astrakhan» safflower variety was sown on an area of more than 1 hectare. These activities are implemented by the Public Organization Agrolead within the framework of the project «Improving the productivity of rainfed lands in the Bazar-Korgon district of the Jalal-Abad region», as part of the Integrated Rural Development Programme IRDP co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
